The Tway Company is proud to be THE INDIANA AUTHORIZED

WELDED CHAIN SERVICE CENTER

We are among a select group of distributors in the United States that are trusted by the chain companies to perform welding of new and reconditioned alloy steel chains. To facilitate this achievement The Peerless Chain Company has made significant equipment investments in our Indianapolis operation. This partnership with Peerless Chain allows The Tway Company to best serve our construction and industrial customers  located in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and the Southeast.

With inventory on hand and testing equipment in house we service most chain types from 9/32" through 1" the same day if required.

Sling Chain 101....

Following the proper selection of hooks, chain grade and number of legs or branches for a new sling chain we need to agree on the best method of assembling all of the component parts. Often times mechanical attachments (Kuploks, Hammerlocks or Kuplex Clevis type hooks) are the simplest choice that an industrial distributor should be able to properly install.  Mechanical attachments do have their drawbacks however that welded chains overcome. It is often discovered in chain inspections that consumers will re-arrange the legs and parts to "make the chain work better". This practice alters the original design and the working loads as stated on the statutory ID TAG when the chain was new. By welding the entire assembly we insure that the intended configuration is maintained and the safety features remain in tact

Another item of concern is the flexibility of mechanical coupling links. A sling chain is due for service when among other things the coupling links are bound up or seized, possibly indicating an overload or if the pins and keepers are loose or absent. If the pins fall out from wear and abuse the coupling will separate and release the load. Proper welding of these assemblies makes a safer and longer lasting product. Additionally, mechanical couplings are not intended to be used as universal joints between swivels and clevises, a condition regularly found in excavating and sewer construction.

The Process.....

Chain welding is very specialized and requires link heat treating and tempering prior to proof testing and certification. Whether we are building Grade 63, 80 or Grade 100 sling chains it is imperative that welding and heat treating are performed to exacting standards to insure a safe and durable product.  The Tway Company employs certified welders, certified inspectors, and uses state of the art welding and heat treating equipment to properly build or repair your chains onsite. Finally, Hydraulic Proof Load Testing is performed on every sling chain as a final quality check of the entire assembly. Each alloy sling chain also bears a unique serial number that is referenced on a Certificate of Test. This certificate lists the chain type and working load as well as the actual proof load the chain was subjected to after assembly.
